India’s National Digital Health Mission: A New Model to Enhance Health Outcomes

On August 15, 2020, India’s 74th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi launched the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM). The NDHM is a comprehensive digital platform that brings together multiple and diverse groups of stakeholders enabled by shared interfaces, reusable building blocks, canonical datasets, and open-standards, with a strong foundation of architecture. In a sector that is riddled with administrative and regulatory complexities, coupled with the scale and scope of operations in India, the NDHM aims to revolutionize the healthcare sector. As the largest democracy in the world, that follows a federated structure of governance the NDHM is unequivocally targeted at improving the patient experience of care, improving the health of the population, reducing the cost of providing healthcare, and enhancing the effectiveness of healthcare providers.

The Open Group ‘Digital-First’ Virtual July Event – Highlights Blog

As an organization that is known for its world-class events and prides itself on bringing people together globally, this week The Open Group hosted its second virtual event following the success of the first ever #ogVIRTUAL in April.

It was fantastic to have over 2,100 attendees from 107 countries come together virtually to explore the topic of ‘Digital First’. Sessions and workshops were hosted by a plethora of industry experts and centered on the security, trust, and architectural issues which need to be considered when becoming a “Digital-First” organization.

Competing in The Age of AI

As someone who cares about how business strategy and digital intersect, it is great to see complementary validations of business thinking. This is what I found after reading “Competing in The Age of AI”, released on January 6, 2020. The book’s authors extend and compliment “Designed for Digital” which was reviewed in September.  Maybe the authors should take a walk across the Charles River.

In Competing in the Age of AI, authors Marco Iansiti and Karim Lakhani dig into the role of data and AI in driving the digital future. Their perspectives provide additional and supportive thinking from Designed for Digital.

The Open Group hosted its latest event in the beautiful Mile High City of Denver, Colorado, at the Four Seasons Hotel, July 22 – July 25, welcoming approximately 300 attendees from 14 countries including Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Netherlands, India, UAE, and Denmark. The event’s theme, ‘Agile Architecture’, explored the intersection of Agile methodologies and Enterprise Architecture.

Digital Transformation at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport: A Conversation with Aaldert Hofman

Global air travel is growing at exponential rates. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), air travel is expected to double by 2035, growing from 3.8 billion travels in 2016 to 7.2 billion.

Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is already feeling the effects of this growth. According to Aaldert Hofman, Lead Enterprise Architect for the Schiphol Group, the airport has been working to accommodate this trend through digital transformation, using a strategy of “bytes not bricks” to better manage crowds, accommodate airline schedules and provide a better passenger experience.

We spoke with Thomas Magedanz, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the Technische Universität Berlin and Director of the software-based networks competence center at Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, about the expectations for 5G networks, why 5G technologies are being tested with Smart Cities applications and how standards can drive the global network interoperability that 5G will require.
